BUET in turmoil over news of escape of Abrar Fahad murder convict

The BUET campus was in turmoil late at night after the death row convict in the murder case of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) student Abrar Fahad escaped from jail. BUET students have erupted in protests demanding the arrest and hanging of the murderer Jamie.

On Monday (February 24), students took out a procession from BUET’s Shaheed Minar at 12:30 am. Later, the procession reached the foot of the Raju Sculpture of Dhaka University via Palashi More and VC Square. Later, BUET students held a press conference there.

During this time, the students started chanting slogans like “Abrar’s brother’s blood, I will not let it go in vain; Action to action, direct action” etc.

At the press conference, Abrar Fahad’s younger brother Abrar Fayyaz said, “After many movements and struggles after Abrar’s murder, after the death sentence of one person, we were waiting for this verdict to be implemented so that we would get at least a little peace.” And the news of the escape of this accused at this moment is disappointing for us.

Earlier on Monday night, Abrar Fahad’s younger brother Abrar Fahad posted on his Facebook profile that the convict sentenced to death in the Abrar Fahad murder case had escaped from jail.

Abrar Fahad wrote in his post, the convict sentenced to death for the murder of Abrar Fahad, Jamie, escaped from jail after August 5 last year. However, we are being informed today, when his lawyer did not come to present any arguments.

He wrote, the convict on death row was supposed to be in a condemnation cell, how could he escape! The fact that this information has not come out even after his escape proves that no effort was made to catch him. There are three more absconders already. Muntasir Al Jamie, father- Abdul Majid, mother- Josna Begum, address: 5/1 Boundary Road, Notun Bazar, Kotwali, Mymensingh.
