Flood warning issued in Saudi Arabia amid fears of widespread storms and rain in the desert

Saudi Arabia has issued a flood warning for the holy cities of Mecca and Medina, as well as the surrounding desert areas, amid fears of widespread storms and rain. The country’s Meteorological Department said that heavy rains are likely to occur in various parts of the country until Thursday. During this time, there is a risk of flash floods and hail in Riyadh, Hail, Al Qassim, the eastern region, the northern border, Mecca and Medina regions.

The forecast also said that light to moderate rains as well as dust storms and sandstorms may occur in the Mecca region due to strong winds. This weather may also affect the Taif, Moysan, Adham, Al Ardiat, Al Muwaih, Khurma, Raniyah, Turubah, Bahrah, Al Jummum, Khulais and Al Kamil regions of Mecca.

Middle East-based media outlet Arab News reported that the Saudi Civil Defense Authority has issued a warning of widespread thunderstorms until Thursday in addition to storms and rain. The department urged the public to follow the latest weather information and updates. In addition, it advised to follow the instructions of the relevant authorities.

In another report, the meteorological center said that winds may blow at a speed of 40 to 49 kmph in the Jeddah, Shuaiba and Al Lith regions. As a result, visibility may decrease and the sea may become rough. This may disrupt maritime navigation. The warning has been issued in these regions from 9 am to 11 pm on Tuesday.

The meteorological center said that everyone has been asked to be alert during this time, especially while driving. It has also been requested to avoid flood-prone areas.
