Supreme Court security beefed up

In the past few days, incidents of vandalism, attacks, and counter-attacks have been taking place in various parts of the country. Security has also been beefed up in the Supreme Court area in view of these incidents.

Bangladesh Army has deployed army personnel in the Supreme Court premises since Saturday (February 8) morning.

Security has been beefed up mainly based on information that murals will be demolished in the High Court area.

Supreme Court Public Relations Officer Md. Shafiqul Islam told the media in this regard that there is a statue of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman inside the Supreme Court. Therefore, security at the Supreme Court has been beefed up as part of precautionary measures.

Earlier, students enraged by the announcement of Sheikh Hasina’s online speech, who fled to India after being ousted in a mass uprising, extensively vandalized and set fire to Sheikh Mujib’s house at Dhanmondi 32 in the capital. The vandalism began around 8 pm on Wednesday. Students were also seen chanting anti-Hasina slogans there. At the same time, the anti-discrimination student movement called for a bulldozer procession.

In continuation of this, students and the public vandalized the houses of ministers of the previous government and others. At the same time, they destroyed sculptures and murals of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in various parts of the country.
