Three police superintendent (SP)-rank officers, including former Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) Commissioner Deputy Inspector General DIG Mollah Nazrul Islam, have been arrested.
Three people were arrested from different police units in separate operations on Friday and Saturday (February 7-8) and taken to the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective (DB) office.
Although the law enforcement agencies have not officially announced this, the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police and several senior officials have confirmed this information.
Apart from Mollah Nazrul Islam, the other three are Police Superintendent Asaduzzaman, Commandant of the In-Service Training Center in Nilphamari, Police Superintendent Abdul Mannan, attached to the Rangpur Range, and former Police Superintendent Abul Hasnat of Bagerhat.
Former Police Superintendent of Bagerhat Abul Hasnat was active in suppressing the 2024 11th National Parliament elections and the anti-discrimination student movement. And Abdul Mannan used force to suppress student and public movements while he was the Superintendent of Police in Comilla and Sylhet. There were multiple allegations of staging militant dramas against him while he was in the CTTC.
On the other hand, Mollah Nazrul Islam was removed from the GMP on May 31, 2023 and was assigned to the Armed Police Battalion (APBN) DIG. Then he was transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police. The last time Mollah Nazrul Islam was removed from the CID and attached to the Sarada Police Academy in Rajshahi. Mollah Nazrul is an officer of the 20th batch of the BCS police cadre.
Superintendent of Police Abdul Mannan was criticized for using force during elections and anti-discrimination student movements while working in Comilla and Sylhet. Earlier, when he was the police superintendent of CTTC, several allegations were made against him for staging militant dramas.
25th batch officer Asaduzzaman was criticized for using force and immoral activities during elections and anti-discrimination student movements while he was the police superintendent of Noakhali.
After the July-August coup, cases were filed against each of them and they were later attached to different police units.
