Politicians meet with UN Secretary-General

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who is visiting Bangladesh, is holding a roundtable meeting with the National Consensus Commission and political party leaders.

The meeting began at 1 pm on Saturday (March 15) at Hotel Intercontinental in Shahbagh in the capital.

Present at the meeting were Legal Advisor Professor Asif Nazrul, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed, Jamaat-e-Islami Nayebe Amir Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, Secretary Mia Golam Parwar, NCP Convener Nahid Islam, Amar Bangladesh Party General Secretary Asaduzzaman Fuad, Nagorik Oikya President Mahmudur Rahman Manna, and others.

Antonio Guterres inaugurated the UN House in Gulshan in the capital this morning. After the inauguration, the UN Secretary-General visited the UN office. The UN Secretary-General toured various photographs at the event organized to mark the 50th anniversary of the photo exhibition. Advisor to the Ministry of Industries and the Ministry of Housing and Public Works Adilur Rahman Khan was present at the event.

At the event, Antonio Guterres highly praised Bangladesh’s hospitality towards the Rohingya refugees. He said that the UN is fully committed to supporting Bangladesh at this crucial time.

Drawing attention to the international community, he said that the generous initiative of Bangladesh to shelter a large number of Rohingya refugees in difficult circumstances should be fully supported by the world community. Guterres also said that the UN will stand by Bangladesh in its important reforms.

It is also known that the UN Secretary-General and Foreign Affairs Advisor Md. Towhid Hossain will participate in a joint press conference in the afternoon.
