The operation will continue until the Devil is over, said Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.
He told reporters after a program at the capital’s Farmgate on Sunday (February 9) morning.
Regarding the operation Devil Hunt across the country, the Home Affairs Advisor said that the operation will continue until the Devil is over. Many of those who attacked students and the public in Gazipur have been brought under the law. The rest will also be brought soon.
The Home Affairs Advisor also said that the Devil Hunt operation will continue targeting those who will destabilize the country.
Several students were injured in a beating at the house of Awami League leader and former Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque in Gazipur last Friday night. Seven of them were seriously injured and were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. One of them is in critical condition.
Hospital sources said that a total of 11 people came from Gazipur on Friday night after being injured in the beating. Four of them received first aid. The remaining seven have been admitted to the hospital. Among them, one named Kashem (17) is in critical condition. He has been kept in the intensive care unit (ICU).
Yakub’s brother Md. Nasir, who was injured in the attack on the hospital, said that his brother and others were trapped and locked in a room of AKM Mozammel Haque’s house in Gazipur around 8:30 pm on Friday and beaten with sharp weapons. They were beaten indiscriminately. His brother has an injury to his head.
Local people and police said that the angry students attacked Mozammel Haque’s house in Dakshinkhan of Dhirashram in Gazipur city. They entered the house and vandalized it. At that time, the mosque’s microphone announced that the minister’s house had been robbed and called on people to come forward. Hearing the miking, the people around surrounded the house. At that time, some people were beaten. At least 15 people were injured.
The Home Ministry has been shaken by the attack on students. It announced Operation Devil Hunt. After that, the joint forces started a 24-hour operation from Saturday night. Patrols were strengthened at important intersections.
Gazipur Police Superintendent Chowdhury Jaber Sadek said that 40 Awami League leaders and activists have been arrested so far in connection with the attack on students and the public.
Regarding the arrest of five senior police officers, the Home Affairs Advisor said that the countrymen are aware of the crimes of those who have been arrested.
