A public gunfight and shooting incident took place in a garment factory in Jamgarh area of Ashulia. At least 5 people were injured, including two who were shot.
On Sunday (February 9), around 3 pm, a public gunfight and shooting incident took place in front of Brookhill Market adjacent to Jamgarh intersection in Ashulia. The Ashulia police recovered two bullet shells after inspecting the scene.
According to the police, the incident took place with the people of local Roni Bhuiyan and Sharif Chowdhury to take control of the S Suhi factory in the industrial area of Ashulia.
Locals said that when Roni Bhuiyan’s people tried to take out the fake goods from the factory, Sharif Chowdhury’s people stopped them. At that time, a chase ensued. Locals also heard several rounds of gunfire. At least five people, including two who were shot, were injured during this time. They are undergoing treatment in different hospitals.
The injured are Kaptan (16), son of Md. Dalim of Habiganj Sadar Police Station area, and Manju Mia (18), son of Bachchu Mia of Pitna village of Tangail Sadar Police Station. They used to earn a living from two separate rented houses in Jamgara area of Ashulia. In addition, Sheikh Abu Zafar, son of Nur Mahammad Sheikh of Lohagara village of Lohagara upazila of Narail, was injured in the head by a brick. The names of the others could not be found.
Some eyewitnesses who did not want to be named said that in the afternoon, people of Tati Dal leader Bakul Bhuiyan left the S Suhi Industrial Park of Preeti Group in Jamgara area of Ashulia with a car of a jhut. Shortly after, people of a person named Sharif Chowdhury attacked to take over the jhut and its business. During the attack, there was a chase between the people of both sides.
They also said that Sharif Chowdhury’s people were seen practicing weapons in public. They also said they heard six rounds of gunfire. To control the counterfeit business, active workers and supporters of Sharif Chowdhury threw bullets and bricks and stones. At that time, Sharif Chowdhury’s hired terrorists Bappi, Ghar Kata Jewel, Tanvir, Ripon, Ruhul Islam Munshi and Mainuddin Liton led by more than a hundred teenage gang members attacked the opponents with pistols, hockey sticks, rods and chisels.
When Bakul Bhuiyan was contacted in this regard, he said that he had a legal contract to do counterfeit business from that factory. Despite this, Sharif Chowdhury tried to loot his goods. His (Sharif Chowdhury’s) house is in the direction where the truck loaded with goods goes. They shot from the roof and threw bricks and stones, injuring the workers and employees. Sharif had asked for a ransom of 10 lakh taka, and when he did not give it, he committed such a heinous attack on us.
However, former vice-president of Ashulia Police Station Chhatra Dal Sharif Chowdhury denied the allegations. He claimed that they themselves had caused the incident due to a conflict.
Ashulia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nur Alam Siddique said that the police have inspected the scene. Initially, it is known that the clash took place between the workers and supporters of local Bakul Bhuiyan and Sharif Chowdhury. The matter will be investigated and legal action will be taken.
Dhaka District Police Additional Superintendent of Police (Savar Circle) Md. Shahinur Kabir said, as far as I know, today, when Roni Bhuiyan and Sharif Chowdhury’s people were carrying jhut, there was an exchange of chase and shooting. The police are working on the matter. The legal process is underway to identify those involved in the incident.
